The Tale of Havok 3
This was mine and Medicine Man’s first attempt at producing tracks for Havok Records, with the help of Harry and Woody. I love these two tracks because they both represent everything we were playing at the time. I have always been a lover of breakbeats, sirens, and 303s, and Mother Night has them all. The name Mother Night comes from the Kurt Vonnegut book of the same name, and the very first thing you hear on the track is Nick Nolte getting his face stamped on from the film adaptation.
This track was intended to have a perfect lock groove at the end, but we did not realise at the time that to achieve a perfect lock groove at 33 RPM, the track’s BPM must be approximately 133 (or something like that). As a result, the looped siren at the end unfortunately sounds off and runs out of time.

This Side – Chorlton And The Wireless – Acid F.M.

This harks back to my time in Chorlton, where I lived for most of Havok. By then, the studio had relocated to 69 Albany Road in Chorlton (hence the Studio 69 on the label). The classic kids’ TV show Chorlton and The Wheelies was so named because it was produced at Cosgrove Hall Studios just around the corner. The play on words referencing Chorlton and The Wireless just seemed obvious, as did the addition of Acid F.M. In the very first episode of Chorlton and the Wheelies, when he hatches from his egg, it says ‘Made in Chorlton-Cum-Hardy‘ on the inside.
That Side – It’s Better Than Boots

This is a playful twist on the name pHarmacy – the moniker adopted by my partner in crime, Medicine Man, when producing tracks. For those who may not have noticed, pHarmacy is always spelled with a lowercase p and capital H, as in pH relating to acidity levels in chemistry.
